ShuffieldLowman Employees Bring Big Smiles to the Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida

Every face had a smile, not just the children, as the ShuffieldLowman treasure trove of toys were delivered just in time for the DSACF’s annual holiday party, held this year at the high-energy entertainment center, Monkey Joe’s.

As part of an annual giving tradition, ShuffieldLowman team members started collecting toys for children of all ages under the firm Christmas tree from Thanksgiving until mid-December.

Each year, ShuffieldLowman adopts a local charitable organization, combining a gift from the firm with the generosity of donated items provided by employees. This year’s charitable organization was chosen in support of firm partner, Scott Cookson’s tremendous work on behalf of the DSACF as long-time Board member and Past President. Mr. Cookson, whose oldest son Evan has Down syndrome, had this to say about the work of the DSACF: “My son and my family have been blessed over the years through the work and support of the DSACF. The organization is all about education, awareness and families helping families. Having a child born with any type of disability can be overwhelming to any parent. Having a support system of others who “have been there, done that” can provide a certain comfort that you’re not going it alone. The DSACF does a tremendous job of helping to establish the support system and in linking families with families.”

The Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida is a not-for-profit association, founded in 1991, by parents of children with Down syndrome. It has grown from a few families to over 9,000 individuals, families and supporters. DSACF is governed by a volunteer board of directors (more than 50% have a family member with Down syndrome.) The organization serves more than 850 families in the 7-county area in and around Orlando.

DSACF is the leading voice for individuals with Down syndrome and their families, offering hope, encouragement and acceptance through advocacy, education and awareness so that each may realize their potential as members of our community.
